Best Gluten Free Food at Disney World
Introduction
Finding quality gluten free food while traveling can be tough. Trusting menu items that sound too good to be true can be even harder. Walt Disney World is home to some of the best gluten free food I have ever had. From simple items like burgers all the way to hard to find items like churros and beignets, Walt Disney World has it all. I have tried each of the following items personally and can attest to the commitment Disney World makes to prepping gluten free items safe for the most severe cases of Celiac Disease. When ordering any of the items below it is super important to let the cast member taking your order know that you have a gluten allergy. This will ensure that your food is prepared separate from all other food items by a designated cast member that understands your unique needs. Let’s dive into the best gluten free food at Disney World!
Churros at Nomad lounge
The churros can be found at the Animal Kingdom at a place called the Nomad lounge. The Nomad Lounge is on Discovery Island on the path to Pandora - The World of Avatar. Walking up to the restaurant it may appear as though you have to put your name on the waitlist to be seated. If you are simply seeking to grab the churros to go, let the cast member at the door know, head to the bar and wait for them to take your order. As I stated earlier, make sure you request the gluten free churros. They were surprisingly light and fluffy, and unlike most gluten free food, they don't crumble. There were two different dipping sauces that came with the churros and both were super yummy.
Beignets
The beignets can be a little tricky to find, but no worries, I did the hard part for you. At the Port Orleans resort in the Scat Cat’s club is where you will need to go. When you get to the gate at the resort just tell the cast member that you’re getting breakfast at Scat Cat’s and they will happily wave you through. Park on the left side of the parking lot so that you will have less of a walk. As you enter the main door take an immediate left and Scat Cat’s is the bar style cafe. The beignets, like the churros, are super fluffy. A full batch comes with six which is plenty to share, even the half order is a lot because they are very dense. You will know immediately if you did not get the gluten free ones as the regular ones are Mickey shaped. If you’re a foodie like me, these are a must try!
All you can eat breakfast at The Polynesian
You have to make a reservation ahead of time for this, and it can be a little tough to navigate, but this was the best gluten free breakfast I have ever had in my life! The only time I’ve been was in 2019 with my family. The breakfast was all you can eat and it had eggs, potatoes, waffles, pancakes, the whole 9! If you are able to get a reservation and have the time to give it a try, I can promise you will not be let down.
Magic Kingdom
This next item is not particularly special but it’s a great option for a quick meal and it tasted great! At the Pinocchio Village Haus behind the Castle in Magic Kingdom. I stumbled on this place when we took cover for a brief rainstorm. Since it was lunch time we looked at the menu and saw gluten free fried chicken was an option and I was sold. It’s not that I dislike the burgers at Disney World, but the chance to try something else cannot be passed up. The meal came with 3 pretty large chicken strips over a bed of french fries. The chicken was surprisingly crispy, which is hard to do with gluten free flour sometimes. If you’re in Magic Kingdom and would like to try something new this is definitely a great option!
Hollywood Studios
At Hollywood Studios there is only one place I eat for lunch every time and that is Woody’s Lunchbox across from the Slinky roller coaster and next to Toy Story Mania. For me it is comfort food that soothes my soul and makes everything in the world right again. I always order the BBQ Brisket Melt and the “Totchos”. For the sandwich they swap the sourdough for Udi’s gluten free bread but the sandwich will still rock your world. For the “Totchos” they change the chili to a vegan chili which spooked me at first, but you would never know the difference! The seating can be a little competitive so we sometimes share a table with another group, but it’s the happiest place on earth with the best gluten free lunch so it’s hard to really care! If you are in need of savory comfort food you should look no further.
Epcot
At Epcot there are gluten free options everywhere you look. Chefs de France has gluten free bread. The pyramid restaurant is almost completely gluten free. The most unique and best gluten free option we found was the Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich at L’Artisan des Glaces at the French pavilion in the World Showcase. Like a rookie I was unaware that macarons are traditionally gluten free without any modifications. This ice cream sandwich was as big as my hand and delicious from start to finish. Aubry got the seasonal macaron flavor on our last visit which was strawberry and I got the chocolate. Both options were amazing! If you have a raging sweet tooth this is the perfect option for you!
Disney Springs
Disney Springs is full of great restaurants, but some have better gluten free selections than others. I’m from Texas so I always jump at the chance to chow down on some BBQ. The Polite Pig is a whisky bar and BBQ restaurant located by the escalator for the Lime garage. There are a few food items that cannot be modified to be gluten free, but the staff is very knowledgeable and will guide you in the right direction! Aubry and I split the Butcher Board for Two. This entree comes with a little bit of each protein that they offer as well as 2 sides. The potato salad is spectacular. However, if you are not into cold potato salad this will not be for you. Another pro tip, if you plan to have more than one of their cocktails, order a pitcher of it. You will save a good amount of money this way!
To Wrap Up!
So far I have only taken one foodie trip to Disney World, but I like to think we hit all of the main places. Hopefully this list gives you a head start on your list of gluten free food to try! Use this as a reference and feel free to let me know if you like any of the food you try! As always subscribe to the blog and share with your friends!
